The Shalom Tenants Alliance operates on a 100% volunteer basis, and we
need your help!
For starters, please sign up to help flyer
buildings!
In addition, you can participate by:
- Joining our mailing list! (just email us at info@shalomtenants.org
and ask to be added to our list)
- Attending Shalom Tenants Alliance meetings
- Documenting problems in your building and apartment & sharing
documentation with the Alliance
- Sharing photographs of your building
- Filing formal complaints with city and state agencies
- Asking your elected officials to support the Alliance
- Participating in Shalom Tenants Alliance actions
We especially need help with day-to-day Alliance business,
such as
- Answering email
- Arranging meeting space
- Preparing meeting agendas
- Chairing meetings
- Preparing meeting minutes
- Keeping building details up-to-date
- ACRIS: deeds and mortgages
- HPD violations
- DOB violations
- Housing Court cases
- Elected officials
- Photocopying flyers
- Photographing Shalom buildings for the website
- Addressing, stamping, and mailing materials to tenants who don't have
email access
- Organizing and attending tenant meetings in individual Shalom buildings
- Making phone calls
- Generating ideas for media and writing press releases
- Preparing and presenting grant applications
- Helping with fundraising
Last but not least, you can help get the word out and help build a stronger
Alliance by
- Representing the Alliance at events of other tenant activism groups
(Met Council, Cooper Square, GOLES, etc.) and other tenant alliances
(Croman, Granite, etc.)
- Representing the Alliance at Community Board meetings, City Council
meetings, etc.
- Lobbying for changes in rent laws and enforcement of housing/building
codes
